Infonetics: WiMAX market defied recession in 2Q

[1]Infonetics Research said the WiMAX market defied the recession in the second quarter, growing 12 percent sequentially to $255 million because of growth in the U.S. and India.

"The second quarter showed signs that the WiMAX market has passed through the bottom of the slowdown trough, and the outlook is cautiously optimistic for steadier growth returning to the market by the end of the year," said Richard Webb, the firm's directing analyst for WiMAX, microwave and mobile devices.

Here are Infonetics' other market forecasts:

• The global WiMAX equipment and devices market is expected to hit $4.9 billion in 2013.
  
• More than one-third of the world's WiMAX equipment and device revenue currently is derived from Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
  
• The number of WiMAX subscribers is expected to reach nearly 140 million worldwide in 2013.
