4G maps show AT&T has best coverage

Tools

New maps provided to Fierce by wireless coverage firm American Roamer show that AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T) is the leader when it comes to the rollout of a 4G-branded radio access network. American Roamer's maps show that AT&T's HSPA+ network covers a much greater area than T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, Verizon Wireless' (NYSE:VZ) LTE network or Clearwire's (NASDAQ:CLWR) WiMAX network. But there are plenty of caveats, including the fact that American Roamer's maps only show the operators' radio access network and not the associated data speeds that are a result of enhanced backhaul. Still, the rollouts indicate the capital network operators are throwing at the deployment of high-speed networks. (And yes, it's true that all 4G is not the same--HSPA+ networks can't support the same speeds as LTE. Nevertheless, both network technologies are now marketed to consumers using the same term: 4G.) Check out all of American Roamer's maps, and Fierce context and analysis, in this Special Report.
