AirCell teams with American Airlines for inflight WiFi

AirCell, which won the exclusive rights in June 2006 to the air-to-ground spectrum that will enable it to provide wireless broadband services on airplanes, announced an agreement with American Airlines to test broadband services with passengers across the U.S. beginning in 2008. The service will allow airline passengers to use WiFi-enabled laptops and other devices to access the Internet or check email in flight. Passenger testing will be conducted on the American Airlines fleet of Boeing 767-200 aircraft that primarily fly transcontinental routes. Cost of the service won't be announced until the service is rolled out.
