Australia's Telstra launches HSPA+

Australia's Telstra last week announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona that it is the first in the world to offer mobile broadband service with peak rates of 21 Mbps made possible through HSPA+ technology.

The operator is offering the Telstra Turbo 21 modem, which was jointly developed by Telstra, Ericsson, Qualcomm and Sierra Wireless. An offering launches today targeted at business customers followed by a consumer offering in April. Typical upload speeds have been pegged at up to 8 Mbps. Telstra is planning to upgrade its network further, to a maximum speed of 42 Mbps by the end of the year.
