Broadcasters not willing to participate in voluntary spectrum auction

Tools

Most broadcasters won't participate in a voluntary incentive auction of their spectrum and "most don't need to participate for it to be a win," said Phil Weiser, the White House National Economic Council's senior adviser for technology and innovation. Weiser said he believed that broadcasters were not as concerned about getting money from the auction as they were with the results of losing their spectrum. The government is looking to free up 500 MHz of spectrum from broadcasters and other sources and hand it over for wireless broadband use within the next 10 years. Article
