California city studying revival of WiFi

Concord, Calif., is considering a plan that involves reviving the WiFi effort MetroFi abandoned in 2008.

The plan is in its early stages but involves the city seeking federal stimulus money to pay for the network that would primarily be used by police officers and other government employees. Concord hopes to make use of the work MetroFi did.

The city council will vote on whether to pay $35,000 for Link Path Communications--which is made up of former MetroFi employees--to draft a grant application.
