CDMA450 operators ask for permission to deploy LTE

Six mobile operators that run CDMA networks in the 450 MHz band have asked the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and their respective regulators for permission to deploy LTE networks in the band.

Tina Radford, chairman of the International 450 Association was cited by 3D News as saying that such a migration to LTE would provide the most optimum way of developing CDMA450 networks.

The six network operators include: Russia's Sky Link, Latvia's Triatel, Belarusian Diallog, Czech operator Ufon, G-Mobile of Mongolia and Romania's Telemobil. Russia's main operators VimpelCom and MegaFon have also submitted opinions and both are likely to oppose  rivals gaining any LTE spectrum advantage. However, it could seek to form partnerships for rural coverage.
