WiMAX operator Clearwire is ready to make its own foray into the VoIP market. After leasing the capability from carriers, Clearwire is now deploying equipment from Nortel that will make it VoIP-enabled. Calls placed to Clearwire customers will continue to reach customers' homes through a wireless connection that is converted to Ethernet once inside the home.

Clearwire will start pushing the new service to the voice customers it has through its carrier partnerships and then eventually look to expand the service to its entire customer base.
