Clearwire planning prepaid WiMAX offering

Clearwire (NASDAQ:CLWR) today plans to announce new pay-as-you-go service pricing for WiMAX service just as the market for prepaid mobile broadband heats up, thanks to an unlimited access plan from Virgin Mobile for $40 per month.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Clearwire said it will unveil "plans to serve a new pay-as-you-go customer segment." Last week the company announced it would hold a press conference promising services for a new customer segment.

While Virgin Mobile has become more aggressive with prepaid mobile broadband pricing, no-contract operator MetroPCS (NYSE:PCS) is rumored to be launching LTE next month and will likely launch prepaid services with it.
