Houston issues RFI for muni-WiFi

Using its $5 million it received as a penalty payment from EarthLink for dropping the city, the city of Houston is looking to re-launch its muni-WiFi initiative, issuing a request for information to review proposals for a new project.

The RFI is looking for information about approaches for providing network operational support for a mixed-use muni WiFi network, hotspot network services in high traffic areas of the city and ISP and open access wholesale management.
