India's SSTL to deploy second phase of CDMA EV-DO Rev. B
India's Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL), which operates mobile services nationwide under the MTS brand, announced it is deploying what it calls the world's first CDMA EV-DO Rev. B Phase II network to Jaipur. The company plans to roll out the advanced Rev.B Phase II network to top metro area and other key cities across India.
SSTL is also introducing the MBlaze Ultra-- a dongle capable of providing data download speeds of 9.8 Mbps, the company said. SSTL said EV-DO Rev. B Phase II technology can further enhance the operator's BTS cell capacity, spectrum efficiency and peak rate, achieving high speed rate as high as 4.9 Mbps in single frequency carrier and 9.8 Mbps in a two-frequency carrier bundle.
The CDMA Development Group (CDG), as of May 2011 estimated there were only 14 operator commitments for Rev. B, including three commercial networks. Phase I of EV-DO Rev. B is a software upgrade, while Phase II includes a hardware component that includes a new channel card at the base station.
