Legal concerns stop iPhone unlocking software

Uniquephones in Belfast, Northern Ireland, was supposed to release software designed to unlock Apple's iPhone on Saturday, but fear of litigation has stalled the plans. According to John McLaughlin, founder of the company, he received a phone call at 3 AM Saturday local time from a man claiming to be from O'Melveny & Myers LLP, an international law firm, calling on behalf of AT&T. The man told McLaughlin that he could be sued for copyright infringement and for dissemination of Apple's intellectual property.

Meanwhile, the news is abuzz over a 17-year-old hacker who unlocked the iPhone for use on T-Mobile's network or overseas networks.
