Nokia ends production of N810 WiMAX tablet

Tools

Although it barely saw the light of day, Nokia's N810 Internet Table WiMAX Edition is no longer in production. Nokia said it is ceasing production of the highly touted device, despite the fact that WiMAX is finally ramping up in the U.S. The tablet only became available in October in conjunction with Sprint's launch of WiMAX in Baltimore.

InformationWeek asked the company about the move, and received this statement: "The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition has reached the expected end of its life cycle. We will continue to follow the WiMAX network development and new product decisions will be considered based on the evolution of the business."

The struggling economy and the fact that LTE appears to be the winner in the next-generation wireless game could be the main reasons why Nokia is making the move.

This is the beginning of the end of Wimax. Thanks Sprint
Nokia's decision is Clear. Clearly, Clear needs to pay attention.
Not so fast. Nokia is one of many developers, and there are a host of others that are producing WiMAX devices. Also, WiMAX and LTE are 90% same, 10% different. It is quite easy to develop a WiMAX/LTE chip, in fact, they already exist. I see this more as evidence that the Tablet is not as popular as expected. And for who worked with it it is quite clear why; it is already outdated in specs, is too small to compete with a laptop, and too large to compete with a PDA phone.
Wow - One tablet stopped from production. That means Wimax is no more. I see why I read the comic strip - The duplex. I believe the shenanigans in that comic strip more then the comments I read in here. Where is the optimism? I know what it is they don't have 75 and 80 million suscribers nor do they have 100 billion or 275 billion in spending power. The economy is not a factor either - like people losing their jobs and spending power. Nope none of that!!! That dog with the big nose in the comic strip is saying why don't Americans get a grip??? Maybe Clearwire should borrow from those deep pocket companies. The FCC doesn't mind them getting BIGGER and BIGGER! Hold on cities, towns and villages while these conglomerates shove down your throats their reasons for bringing their fancy new tv services to your neck of the woods. Get your salt shakers ready - so you can take it with a grain of salt and a six figure check.......I see, I see, I see you crying....
