Report: Android 2.2 to support built-in tethering via USB and WiFi

Android 2.2, codenamed Froyo, is expected to support built-in tethering via USB and WiFi. The tethering function will enable users to connect their devices and use them as modems to share connectivity with other devices via a USB or WiFi connection, which is similar to the MiFi hotspot model.

Nexus One customers are expected to get the update before this week's Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco. Benchmark tests reportedly show the updated platform is 450 percent faster than predecessor Android Eclair 2.1. That would mean Froyo could handle tasks such as video processing more smoothly.
