Report: Nokia, Verizon in pact for exclusive LTE device

Tools

Verizon Wireless and Nokia are reportedly planning a partnership that might be an exclusive deal to create an "iconic" device to run on Verizon's Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, according to an article in TheStreet that cites people close to the companies. The partnership would be a big deal for Nokia, which has struggled with market share in the U.S., while Verizon is looking to one-up the iPhone offered exclusively by AT&T.

The move would also be counter to Nokia's efforts to essentially circumvent operators and offer features such as VoIP and mobile content to consumers directly. It may be a sign that Nokia is recognizing it has to play nice with operators in the U.S. to gain a foothold in that market. The companies didn't comment on the possible deal.
