Rumor: Sprint and Clearwire talking, again

Tools

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Sprint and Clearwire have revived their talks about creating a joint venture to defray the costs of WiMAX. The two are reportedly looking to bring in outside funding from firms such as Google, Intel and retailer Best Buy. The plan could lower the $5-billion deployment costs of WiMAX and allow Sprint to focus on its core cellphone business, which is struggling.

Last summer, the two companies created a cost-sharing joint venture to build out WiMAX but ended the deal in November.
