Samsung expects more mobile WiMAX contracts

Samsung Electronics said it anticipates winning mobile WiMAX contracts with operators in Canada and in several South American countries.

"We are looking at the opportunities to bring mobile WiMAX services in Canada and some Latin American countries and hope to conclude some of the deals by end of this year," said Woonsub Kim, executive vice president and head of Telecommunication Systems Division of Samsung Electronics.

Samsung launched the world's first commercial services in Korea in June 2006 and has deals with 23 major operators in 19 countries, including Clearwire, UQ Communications in Japan and Yota in Russia.
