Here is a challenge to the proposition that you get what you pay for: San Bruno, CA-based WiFi middleware company Devicescape is now in beta tests of a free service that it says will automatically connect devices to supported hotspots and municipal WiFi networks. The Devicescape service currently supports WiFi-enabled Windows Mobile 5.0 devices and PCs running Windows XP SP2. It can access FON, Google WiFi and T-Mobile HotSpot USA public hotspots. The account and client are free. The company says that "once the device and the network are set up from the Devicescape website, connecting is automatic.
