SPOTLIGHT: The Best Is Yet to Come

Tools

Improved security, notebooks with built-in WiFi, and an eventual boom in mobile VoIP will cause the enterprise WLAN market to more than double by 2009, according to Dell'Oro. WiFi adoption is growing beyond vertical industries such as healthcare, education, and retail. Enterprises in general are starting to invest in WiFi as the cost in client equipment declines and security and management headaches ease. The advance of built-in client gear in most notebook PCs has eliminated the cost of separate WiFi cards. Meanwhile, security and network management mechanisms have improved. The worldwide enterprise WLAN business will grow to $3.5 billion in 2009 from an estimated $1.1 billion this year. Report
