Sprint iPod Touch case to bring 3G connectivity

Tools

A Sprint (NYSE:S) device capable of bringing 3G connectivity to the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPod Touch has passed FCC testing.

According to Intomobile, the Sprint Peel case is an iDevice accessory sleeve/case manufactured by ZTE that appears to attach to the back of the iPod Touch to enable connectivity via Sprint's EV-DO network. The Peel essentially doubles as a sleeve that also works as a portable WiFi hotspot.

Such a capability brings about an interesting possibility, Intomobile notes. Imagine an iPod Touch, a microphone and a Skype app completely replacing a mobile phone. And once Apple updates the iPod Touch with iOS 4.0, the updated Skype app could accept incoming Skype calls.

iOS 4.0 is already available for the iPod Touch. The iPhone release works on both. It's the iPad that is still running 3.x.
With an Apple earbud set that includes a microphone, one can already make Skype or other VoIP calls. IOS 4 is available as well.
