AT&T to trial Ruckus for HD IPTV via WiFi

AT&T plans to begin consumer trials of its U-verse service using Ruckus Wireless equipment to deliver HD IPTV via 802.11n throughout the home.

According to Light Reading, AT&T is looking for ways to save time on customer installations by using WiFi connectivity instead of coaxial cable. AT&T will use a newer version of Ruckus's gear--the MediaFlex 7000--which is constructed to handle HDTV and support up to 50 Mbit/s throughput for streaming video throughout a typical 2,500 to 3,000 sq. ft. home. The device manual says it can support up to six MPEG-4 HDTV IPTV streams running at 10 Mbit/s each.
