Virgin Mobile expands prepaid mobile broadband offerings

Tools

Virgin Mobile USA said it has expanded its prepaid mobile broadband service into more retail locations. As of Dec. 1, Virgin Mobile said its Broadband2Go, which uses Sprint's EV-DO Rev. A network, will be available at Best Buy Mobile, RadioShack stores, Sam's Club kiosks via RadioShack, Walmart.com and Target.com.

The MVNO, which is in the process of being bought by Sprint, also said it is lowering the price of its USB modem by $50 to $100. When Virgin Mobile first debuted the service in June the Novatel MC760 USB device cost $150.

Earlier this month, Verizon unveiled its own plans, and is offering a daily plan for $15 with a cap at 75 MB of usage, a weekly plan for $30 with a cap at 250 MB and a monthly plan at $50 with a 500 MB cap. Leap Wireless also provides prepaid mobile broadband services for $40 per month.

That is still so expensive, I have a prepaid Straight Talk phone with unlimited data, talk and texts for only $45 per month on Verizon's network nationwide. I know I can't plug it into my computer but I don't need to when I'm between the office and home my cell phone is fine.
