Virgin Trains WiFi rollout behind schedule
The rollout of WiFi on Virgin Trains in the U.K. is behind schedule, suffering from operational problems. The service was supposed to be introduced in 2007, but is still undergoing trials. Virgin says the delay stems from restricted access to trains. Virgin is working with Nomad Digital, which claims the service has been rolled out in the majority of Virgin's train fleet. The service is intended to link Virgin's trains to wireless base stations located trackside with radios located every few kilometers to ensure seamless connectivity even through tunnels. The service is based on WiMAX technology. Article

Virgin Trains' lack of broadband is utterly ridiculous. Other major operators, such as the East Coast line and the Brighton line, have offered WiFi for ages now and we regular travellers can get on with our work. Meanwhile on Virgin, no WiFi even for those willing to pay for it, and not even a decent and reliably continuous GPRS/EDGE signal for dongle use.
It's almost worth travelling up the East Coast and then cutting across!!
