Vodafone trials Ethernet microwave for backhaul

Tools

Vodafone revealed it is trialing Ethernet microwave technology to quadruple its backhaul capacity to cope with the growing data traffic on its networks and faster radio access technology. The new Ethernet microwave technology will enable peak rates of about 180 Mbps compared with the 32 Mbps experienced with traditional microwave backhaul.

Vodafone said it is testing technology from a handful of suppliers. Celtro, Ericsson, Ceragon and Nokia are rumored to be part of the trial.
