Vonage-Verizon patent drama over

Tools

VoIP operator Vonage announced a deal with Verizon to settle a dispute over several VoIP patents, including those associated with the use of WiFi networks for Internet calling. The settlement, announced late last week, depends on an appeals court's ruling on Vonage's petition for another hearing regarding two of the patents in dispute. If Vonage wins a rehearing for either of those patents, it will pay Verizon $80 million. If not, the company agrees to pay $120 million, including $2.5 million to select charities. And who said patent fights are all about greed?
