WCDMA femtocell standard official

Tools

The Femto Forum announced the first WCDMA femtocell standard has been officially completed with specs that cover network architecture, radio and interference, management and provisioning and security.

The Femto Forum, along with the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) and the Broadband Forum, completed specs around architecture, radio and interference in December, but the security and management items still needed to be worked out. All of the specifications are now included in the 3GPP's Release 8 of the WCDMA standard.

Will the completion of a standard now incite operators to commit to large-scale deployments? Rollouts so far have been on a small-scale basis within the WCDMA community.
