T-Mobile US plans to significantly expand the footprint where its MetroPCS brand offers service--by around 100 million POPs over the next six quarters--as it continues to modernize its network and integrate MetroPCS customers following the merger between the two companies that closed earlier this month.
T-Mobile US confirmed that customers who choose its new "Simple Choice" no-contract plans will need to pay $149.99 up front for Apple's iPhone 5, up from $99.99 previously. The $99.99 price was apparently only a promotional price for the first month of T-Mobile's iPhone sales, though the carrier did not indicate that when it announced in late March it was launching the iPhone.
Two hackers claim they can boost HSPA+ data speeds on Apple iPhone 5 smartphones being used on the T-Mobile US refarmed PCS 1900 MHz network.
U.S. Cellular will launch Apple products, including the iPhone, later this year, reversing its earlier position. The company said in 2011 that it would not launch the iPhone because it did not make financial sense.

Though the parent company did not mention it, TracFone's Straight Talk launched support for Apple's iPhone in January, which likely helped boost its first quarter numbers.
